Frankfurt is the fifth largest city in Germany and the financial centre of the country.  The airport is also a major hub of the region making the destination more attractive.  If you’re looking for culture, Frankfurt, Germany has got it going on. Many cultural events take place around the city. During August, a major festival called “Museumsuferfest: takes place along the Main riverbank, where around 20 museums reside. Like most European cities, because of the nature of their historical architecture, wheelchair accessibility can be challenging if not properly planned, but doable.

The Skyline shuttle train at the airport is accessible as well as the bus service. ACTIVITIES

Alte Oper Frankfurt: For people interested in the arts, the Alte Oper Frankfurt is wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair lavatories are on level 1 and level 2.

Romerberg: Romerberg is a popular area for tourists to visit.  Serving as the Central Square of Frankfurt where in the past many trade fairs and festivals took place. Accessibility is fairly good in this part of town and the architecture will take you back centuries. Note that wheelchair accessible bathrooms in establishments might be a problem, and there are cobblestone streets to navigate.

Saint Bartholomew’s Cathedral: The St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral was built in the 14th or 15th century. It’s a gothic style church, which is worth seeing. It’s one of the most beautiful churches in Frankfurt. Accessibility can be challenging, but it’s still worth seeing the beauty of the outside structure. 

Shopping: One of the most popular places to shop is Zeilgalerie, a ten story tall shopping structure. Visitors describe Zeil as “the Fifth Avenue of Shopping” because they have just about everything.  Architects have designed the Zeilgalerie so that it is wheelchair friendly.
